Warehouse Storage Modernization
Evaluating how a change from stacked inventory to rack storage affected an older warehouse’s protection requirements.
The project
An established warehouse planned to change its storage method. WFPE evaluated the building’s historical occupancy basis alongside the proposed move to high-piled rack storage, recognizing that a change in use intensity could matter even without a change in the occupancy group.
Our approach
The review considered the earlier code context, current storage conditions, proposed commodities, and the protection criteria associated with the new arrangement. The report described a sprinkler upgrade approach to support the planned rack storage and identified the operating assumptions behind that recommendation.
What we delivered
WFPE delivered an occupancy and commodity analysis connecting the existing-building history with the proposed modernization. It provided a technical basis for the planned protection improvements, without implying that the new sprinkler system had already been installed or accepted.
