Turning a warehouse’s intended use, stored products, and building conditions into a documented fire protection basis.
The project
A warehouse’s fire protection needs depend on what goes inside it and how that inventory is arranged. WFPE evaluated the building and its intended operations together, rather than treating the warehouse use as a single undifferentiated category. The assignment covered commodity classification, storage arrangements, and the associated life safety provisions.
Our approach
Our review considered building construction and fire protection systems alongside the stored materials and operating conditions. We documented the relationship between the use of the space and the protection provided, bringing the occupancy and commodity questions into one evaluation. That work made the assumptions behind the proposed warehouse use explicit for the project team.
What we delivered
The deliverable was an occupancy and commodity classification letter describing the evaluated operations, storage conditions, and protection provisions. It provided a written basis for discussions about the facility’s use and its fire protection requirements.
