Residential Site Water Supply

Testing the proposed site supply against both hydrant demand and the most demanding sprinkler conditions.

The project

During planning for a residential development, the project team needed to understand whether the available water supply could support the proposed fire protection approach. WFPE used the supplied flow test and civil utility layout to evaluate the site and building demands.

Our approach

We examined the hydrant fire flow requirement and developed a preliminary sprinkler demand for the hydraulically remote area. Attic conditions and the proposed system type affected that demand, while the site piping, elevations, and backflow assembly affected the pressure available to meet it. The report made these design assumptions explicit.

What we delivered

The evaluated conditions indicated that the available supply could serve the analyzed demands without a supplemental tank or pump. WFPE documented that finding as a design planning basis tied to the supplied information and preliminary sprinkler assumptions.
