Existing Sprinkler Storage Compatibility
Comparing a proposed rack-storage use with the design information of a conventional sprinkler system.
The project
A tenant proposed storing packaged products in an existing building with conventional sprinkler protection. WFPE evaluated whether the described commodities and rack arrangement were compatible with that system’s documented design basis.
Our approach
The assessment considered the more demanding commodity classification, storage height, aisle conditions, and sprinkler clearance. Available riser design information was used in comparing the system with the relevant storage criteria. The evaluation focused on the actual proposed arrangement rather than assuming that the presence of sprinklers settled the question.
What we delivered
The occupancy and commodity letter documented the evaluated compatibility and operating conditions. It provided a basis for the proposed warehouse use while making later inventory and storage changes subject to reevaluation.
