Corridor Sprinkler Freeze Protection
Resolving the interaction between exposed sprinkler piping, pipe material, and a proposed heat-tracing system.
The project
Sprinkler piping crossed exposed portions of a residential corridor arrangement. WFPE evaluated freeze protection for these locations, including whether the proposed pipe material was compatible with the heat-tracing approach.
Our approach
The engineering work considered heat loss, insulation, cable selection, electrical circuits, controls, and alarm monitoring. It also addressed replacing incompatible piping material in the evaluated locations and considered alternate routing or dry sprinkler arrangements where appropriate. The analysis connected the thermal protection measures with the physical details of the sprinkler installation.
What we delivered
WFPE provided recommendations and design conditions for the exposed piping. The deliverable identified how the proposed protection approach needed to be coordinated across piping, insulation, power, and monitoring, with the recommendations limited to the conditions evaluated.
