Care Facility Sprinkler Obstructions

Evaluating equipment tracks near sprinklers against the protection criteria applicable to a care facility.

The project

Equipment tracks in a care facility raised a question about sprinkler obstructions. Resolving it required more than measuring the distance to a sprinkler: the review also had to account for the editions of the sprinkler standard used by different reviewing authorities.

Our approach

WFPE evaluated the geometry of the installed condition and the relevant obstruction provisions. We also considered the implications of adding sprinklers, including their spacing and the potential for one sprinkler’s discharge to affect another. The analysis connected the physical arrangement with the appropriate review criteria.

What we delivered

An engineering opinion documented the applicable obstruction approach and the reasoning supporting it. The deliverable addressed the specific equipment and sprinkler relationship, providing a technical basis for review without implying that a new installation or a facility-wide certification had been completed.
