Alternative Fire Water Storage
Developing an engineering basis for review of a fire water tank that did not follow the conventional construction approach.
The project
A fire protection water tank used a construction arrangement requiring an alternative-method evaluation. WFPE examined the proposed basis for accepting that arrangement against the objectives of the applicable tank requirements.
Our approach
The engineering assessment considered the tank’s materials, construction, durability, performance, and safety, together with its connections and role in the fire water supply. The work organized those considerations into an equivalency argument for the authority’s review. The evaluation was tied to the described tank and its supporting information.
What we delivered
WFPE delivered an engineering letter supporting a request for alternative-method approval. The deliverable documented the proposed technical basis; it did not establish that the authority had granted the request. That distinction kept the engineering recommendation separate from the approval decision.
